Europe in 2009: no voice for the right-wing extremists
Call to action
Right-wing extremists across Europe are forming networks to bring about success in the European elections on 4 - 7June 2009.
We call on Europeans from all Member States not to allow right-wing extremists to enter parliaments unhindered. There must be no room in our parliaments for misanthropic and undemocratic ideologies – not at local level, in our municipalities or districts, nor in the national parliaments, nor in the European Parliament.
We will resolutely resist those who are treating with contempt on inalienable human rights, who want to abolish our democracy and spread nationalistic and racist hate propaganda. We therefore call on you not to allow the right-wing populist and right-wing extremist parties to gain a voice on 4 - 7 June.
Right-wing extremism is a Europe-wide problem and one which transcends national boundaries. The Nationalists International network ¬ñ a platform for the right-wing in the upcoming European elections ¬ñ is strengthening. Following the anti-Islamisation conference in Cologne, the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) intends to open an election campaigning office in Cologne, the Italian Forza Nuova is planning a joint campaign with the FPÖ; and the "European National Front", consisting of the NPD and right-wing parties from Romania, Greece, France and Lithuania, met at the beginning of February to "coordinate the role of patriotic forces" in Europe.
European right-wingers operate sophisticated networks via the new media and share elements of campaigns, ideas and styles of clothing. In terms of their clothing and language, the right-wing extremists are increasingly taking on the style of the anti-fascist movement Antifa. The nationale schwarze Block ("national black bloc"), a formation made up of right-wing extremists from across Germany, which marched in the demonstrations on 1 May in Hamburg, is not an isolated phenomenon – similar pictures can also be seen in other European states.
We must defy the right-wingers if they want to stand in the European elections as the "Nationalists International". Yet this can only be achieved through cooperation at all levels – from local municipalities right up to the European Parliament. Therefore we need a well connected anti-racist network.
A right-wing extremist group in the European Parliament, allowing the right-wingers to use the tools of democracy to present and even develop their destructive ideology must no longer be possible. We are striving for a Europe in which all people, independent of their skin colour, ethnicity, religion and sexuality, can rely on our solidarity. That is why we are calling on people across Europe to mobilise against the European right-wing extremists, against a "Europe of nationalistic fatherlands".
